Margaret “Mickey” Strobel, went to her heavenly home on June 25, 2018, leaving a lasting impression on many. Friendly by nature, she made people feel special with her warm smile and interest in their lives.
Mickey was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Shreveport, LA to Homer and Ethel Hanlon. After graduating from high school and working a few years, she moved to Venezuela with her parents.
There she met her husband, Art Strobel, who was working in the oilfield. They married in 1948 and were blessed with two daughters who were born when they lived in Edmonton, Alberta. With her adventuresome spirit, she adapted well to the numerous places they lived and enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and throughout Europe. She loved sports - winning skating, curling, and bowling trophies, and following football, basketball and baseball.
Mickey was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at church, hospital auxiliaries, Houston Hospice and Lutheran Braille Workers. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Memorial Villages Water Authority. She delighted in the close relationship she maintained with her grandchildren and especially loved playing dominos and cribbage or betting on sports games with them.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Art and grandson Joseph Bement. She is survived by daughters Janet Schumacher (husband Steve), and Barbara Strobel (husband George Bement), and her grandchildren, Stanton (wife Jill and daughter Talley) Schumacher, Todd Schumacher, Amy (husband James) Rutherford, Aaron (wife Aneela) Bement and Danny Bement. Also dear to her was her long-time caregiver, Alex Whatley and her nieces and nephews.
