Margaret Marie Neely

Margaret Marie (O’Larry) Neely was born December 1, 1921 in Midway, Texas. On Monday, she would have celebrated her 93rd birthday, and her family had made plans for a party. She now has the privilege of celebrating with our Lord.

Margaret was the daughter of Lueona Killebrew O’Larry and Dewey O’Larry and was raised in Houston. It was in Houston that Margaret married the love of her life, Harris Neely, and raised their children Harris Larry Neely and Janice Neely Bordovsky. Later, Margaret and Harris moved to their Friendswood home, where they spent the rest of their years. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 63 years until Harris passed away. Her life was devoted to being a loving wife and mother, and she did so very well.

Margaret especially enjoyed travel with Harris. They spent years traveling all over the world, but seemed to love best the time they spent in the Texas Hill Country. Their Medina ranch was the source of many happy times with each other and their family. Margaret loved to hunt, and was extremely competitive with the other hunters, all men. She wanted to get the biggest buck, and sometimes did, and you could be sure that she had the perfect outfit, hair, makeup and nails! She always looked beautiful. Her competitive nature came through as she was a fierce game player. She loved to play board games, and even played bingo last week (as best she could). She always wanted to win! She enjoyed watching both college and professional sports games of football and basketball. She was an accomplished cook and she enjoyed entertaining. Margaret was the one to take photos, when no one wanted to take time for them. In later years, everyone was glad that she did, as those photos through the years are treasured. Margaret was also known for her humor, dry wit and loved practical joking. She especially liked “retail therapy.” For Margaret, shopping was both a recreational and social activity! Most importantly, she was affectionately known as “Nanny.”

She was blessed with a long and wonderful life and she will be missed by all that knew her.

Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, “Lula” and Dewey O’Larry, her brother, “Buddy” O’Larry, and her grandson, Todd Bordovsky.

She is survived by her loving son, Harris Larry Neely and daughter-in-law Mary, daughter Janice Neely Bordovsky and husband Jerry. Her grandchildren are Selena Bordovsky Ellis and husband Randy Ellis, Sean Neely, Michael Neely, and granddaughter-in-law Pam Bordovsky. Her great-grandchildren are Kelsey Bordovsky, Blake Bordovsky, Erin Ellis, Matthew Ellis and Shannon Ellis. She is also survived by her half-sister, Faye Owen and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special gratitude to “companion friends” Carmen, Betty and Aggie. They are also appreciative of the care and support she received at Brookdale, Friendswood (formerly Emeritus).

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 1:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at Forest Park Lawndale at 2:00pm, with interment immediately following.
