Margaret Lillie (Schneider) Jatzlau was born October 17, 1922, in Fedor, Texas to Martin and Hedwig (nee Kaiser) Schneider. She was brought to the Lord and made a child of God in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on October 31, 1922, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas. She renewed her baptismal vows in the Rite of Confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 21, 1937. Her confirmation verse was “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them”.
On December 2, 1941, Margaret was united in Holy Matrimony with Gilbert Carl Jatzlau at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas. After they were married, they worked on a farm picking cotton and shucking peanuts. They decided to try a business venture and bought a restaurant and bar were Gilbert worked the counter and Margaret became a chef. Even late into the night she would get up to make something to feed weary travelers. When they decided they needed more stability they moved with their two daughters to Houston where Margaret stayed at home to raise their family and Gilbert went to work as a sheet rocker for Pampell Construction. They were ultimately blessed with 5 children, 2 girls and 3 boys (Shirley, Gladys, Larry, Clyde, and Donald).
Margaret enjoyed spending time volunteering at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where they attended services and the children attended school. She enjoyed being part of the Ladies’ Guild where she would help with the monthly hamburger fry and bake homemade lemon and apple pies for bake sales which helped to raise money to support the church. She also enjoyed time with friends and church members but the time with her growing family was what she enjoyed most.
She loved cooking large feasts for her family during holidays and her homemade BBQ sauce made Gilbert’s BBQ even more finger licking good, but what she was most famous for was her noodles which the grandkids would devour and rush to take home the leftovers before others could get them to go and her 4 layer pie which she would make two of to take to any event she attended and there were several times one of the two pies would go missing only to be found hidden by one of the grandkids for later. Margaret was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, and friend.
Margaret was called to be with her Savior at the home of her daughter on Friday morning, January 7, 2022. She attained the age of 99 years, 2 months, and 21 days.
Margaret is survived by her four children, Shirley Rogers, Gladys Taylor and her husband Joe, Larry Jatzlau and wife Yvonne, Clyde Jatzlau and wife Debra, former daughter-in-law Linda Erwin; ten (10) grandchildren, Brian Bennett and friend Leta, Kimberly Petroski, Stacy Wonzer and husband Ritt, Steven Taylor and wife Misti, Keith Jatzlau and wife Sheri, Kenneth Jatzlau and partner Omar, Kourtney Diaz and husband Eric, Kyle Jatzlau and fiancé Jacy, Travis Jatzlau and wife Brittany, Whitney Jatzlau; fourteen (14) great grandchildren; sister Bernice Jatzlau and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
