Margaret Elizabeth “Mickey” Cramer, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, the 9th of March 2013, in Houston, at the age of 95.
Mickey was born on the 5th of August 1917, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Arthur Guy and Lena Murphy Reed. She moved with her family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Tulsa High School at the age of 15. Following her 16th birthday, Mickey entered Oklahoma A&M, majoring in English and Art. She excelled in watercolors, pastels, lithographs, and sculpture. Beginning at an early age, Mickey designed and made her clothing and later refined that talent to knitting. Her sweater collection was legendary.
After graduating, Mickey married Nick Cramer, her college sweetheart, and moved with him to Denver, Colorado, where their first daughter Jodie was born. Their second daughter, Connie, was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After 8 years in New Jersey, the family moved to Houston in 1957.
Mickey was a manager of Houston Trunk Factory for many years. After her retirement, she became a member of Bible Study Fellowship and, later, Joy of Living. The spiritual leadership of Lois McCall and Jeannette Clift George blessed her life in so many ways.
Travel was a delight to Mickey; she and her friends vacationed all over the world. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and she lived every day to its fullest. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They called her “Lady,” and she was always ready for an outing with them. She also loved her friends and fellowship in her Monday afternoon Bible Study at St. John the Divine. And thank you Matt, Paul, and David for making her Thursdays so much fun.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lena Reed; her sister, Faire Lenore Reed; and her brother, Guy Reed. She is survived by her daughters, Jodie Gallagher and husband, Mike; Connie Wileman and husband, Bob; Mike Gallagher’s sister, Patti Gallagher; Mike and Patti’s cousin, Jana Stevens and husband, Don; grandchildren Devin Gallagher, Shannon Smith and husband, Boyd, and Sean Gallagher and wife, Gaye; great-grandchildren Riley Gallagher, Finn Gallagher, Nick Smith, Megan Smith, and Sloane Margaret Gallagher.
The last years of Mickey’s life were a testimony to her unwavering faith and indomitable spirit. She lived every day with gratitude and grace, enriching our lives and inspiring our souls.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 16th of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Dr. Michael Boys, Senior Pastor of Christ Community Church, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the AD Players Building Fund, Attn: Jeanette Clift George, 2710 W. Alabama, Houston, TX, 77098.
