Margaret Elizabeth Becker, Margaret Elizabeth Becker, age 54, died peacefully in her sleep on the 9th of March 2011 in Bedford, Massachusetts. Elizabeth's profound faith was her strength as she battled illness most of her adult life. It helped her find something of quality in every day despite her many challenges.
Elizabeth was born on the 13th of November 1954 in Highland Park, of Dallas, Texas. She was a graduate of the University of Arizona and a member of her cherished sorority, Tri Delta. She began her working career recruiting nurses for Herman Hospital of Houston but later moved into real estate. She worked with Martha Turner in Houston, Intero in San Francisco, and Ebby Halliday in Dallas. Elizabeth was also active with the Junior League of Houston and was extremely proud of her work in the Herman Hospital Pediatric Critical Care Unit.
While she lived in many cities, she always was a daughter of the South, of Texas, and of Houston. She was an ambassador wherever she traveled demonstrating the best of Southern culture and gentility.
Elizabeth is survived her two children, Greg Stewart and Robert Shouse; her loving husband, John Rhodes Becker; her former husband, Earl Boothe Shouse, with whom she remained close friends; her mother, Marian Shelton; her father, David Works; and her brothers, John and Rob Works and their families. She will be remembered by family and friends in the US and Europe for her love of life, her generosity, and her caring.
A memorial service is to be conducted at noon on Saturday, the 26th of March, in the sanctuary of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, where the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C., 20077; Paws With A Cause, Nat'l. HQ, 4646 South Division, Wayland, MI, 49348; or to a charity of one's choice.
