During high school, Marcelo played baseball. He married Juana Yolanda on March 19, 1955. Marcelo attended the University of Houston. He joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and fought in World War II. Marcelo worked for the US Post Office and worked for the American Rice Company.
Marcelo loved to read and enjoyed working in the yard around the house.
Marcelo is survived by his children, Connie Silva, Mary Helen Cortez and husband Louis Cortez, Yolanda Garza, Dianna Martinez, Liz Wilson and Marcelo Martinez Jr.; grandchildren, Marcelo Martinez III, Maria G. Martinez and husband John Buckley, Michael R. Silva and wife Nelly, Jonathan A. Silva and wife Veronica, Adrian J. Cortez and wife Stacey, Angelica M. Bennett and husband Kevan, Eddie J. Garza and wife Lisa, Erica A. Pecina and husband Fernando, Laura P. Pinones and husband Juan, Jaynee I. Martinez, Zachary T. Wilson, and Samantha G. Wilson; great-grandchildren, Javier A. Pecina, Aaron J. Pecina, Lorenzo T. Pecina, Alyssa A. Pinones, Amy A. Pinones, Aiden A. Pinones, Abigail E. Garza, Mia C. Silva, Ethan M. Silva, Khloe A. Silva, Melody A. Diaz, A. Anthony Diaz, Cate Cortez, and Jace Cortez; sister in law, Isabel Jaso, niece Eva Garza, Nephew Carlos Vargas and wife Maria and great niece Vita Castaneda and husband Juan. In addition, leaving behind to cherish his memory close family friend Lucy Garcia and daughter Jennette Reyes.
He is preceded in death by, wife Juana Y. Martinez, son-in-law Jose Adan Garza, parents Pedro and Santos Martinez, brother Faustino Martinez, brother Ignacio Martinez, brother Selestino Martinez, sister Dolores Mendoza and sister Mary Guerrero.
A visitation for Marcelo will be held Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Monday, February 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A committal service will occur Monday, February 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
