Manuel was a great man who loved God, his family, and his country. He served in Vietnam, where “Each morning, despite the unknowns, they made their legs move.” He earned many medals, including the honorable Purple Heart. He was showcased by The Houston Zoo on a national platform as an extraordinary employee. He later retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital with outstanding marks. He married the love of his life, Julia Marquez.
His most cherished and exceptional role was that of a father and grandfather. He is survived by his two children, Sarah C. Rodriguez and husband Henry and Ernesto M. Salazar and wife Jennifer; his three grandchildren, Ryan, Marcus and Nathan; and three sisters, Olga Juarez, Yolanda Trevino and Dora Lopez. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Juventina Salazar and his sister, Irma Cano.
