Manolo, as he was called by his friends and family, lived a spectacular and full life. He was born in Santiago de Chile in 1948. He played professional basketball there for El Bata and Malloco Atletico. As a young man there, he also worked for an organization charged with providing low income schools with school supplies, uniforms, and lunch. He fought much corruption, but he made sure those donations and supplies were distributed to the poor where they belonged. Such was his character.
At the age of 22, Manolo moved from Chile to New Jersey, and there he met and married the love of his life, Marta Lucia (Saade). Their love spanned his lifetime, lasting over 46 incredible years. Together, their lives took them from New Jersey, to Florida, and finally to Texas where they settled and raised their family for over 40 years. Manolo’s life was driven by his love for his family; his wife, kids, and most importantly his grandchildren who will miss their “Papi” greatly.
Preceded in death by his parents Juan Manuel Berrios and Berta Salinas de Berrios.
Survived in death by his wife, Marta Lucia Berrios, his daughter, Michelle Armendariz (Rick), son, Mario (Linda), grandchildren Diego, Caleb, Bella, Aiden, Rick, and Ava. Also survived by his siblings Ricardo Berrios, Juan Berrios (Teresa), and Betty Berrios, along with many nieces and nephews, who were each special to him.
Manuel Mario Berrios will be remembered for his selfless character, his love for family, and the strength with which he fought for life.
