HE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS AND BROTHERS, VAUGHN AND GENE. MACK IS SURVIVED BY THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE,
BEVERLY WRIGHT BOYKIN, HIS WIFE OF 54 YEARS, HIS SON, RON BOYKIN AND WIFE GLORIANNE, DAUGHTER, LUANNE BOYKIN GERSTNER AND HUSBAND RICHARD, BROTHER IN LAW, DR. JOHN WRIGHT AND WIFE MELINDA, NIECES KARIN WRIGHT, SARAH BOWEN AND LAUREN BOWEN, BECKY BOYKIN AND BETH BOYKIN HILL, MERIDETH AND ANDREA BOYKIN NEPHEWS JARED WRIGHT, MICHAEL AND OLIVER BOWEN, BRET BOYKIN AND NUMEROUS COUSINS.
HE GRADUATED FROM RAYMONDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AT AGE 17. HE WENT TO TEXARKANA COLLEGE ON A FOOTBALLL SCHOLARSHIP, WHERE HE WAS ALL-AMERICAN CENTER IN 1959. HE EARNED A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN BUSINESS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON IN 1961.
MACK SERVED IN THE U.S.M.C. AND THE RETIRED MARINE RESERVES. HE STARTED A LIFE LONG CAREER IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY, WORKING IN SALES FOR GULF SUPPLY AND MCJUNCTION CORP. HE FORMED HIS OWN BUSINESS IN 1971. MACK SPOKE SPANISH AS WELL AS ENGLISH AND DID BUSINESS IN LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. HE NEVER CONSIDERED HIS PROFESSION AS “WORK”, BUT AS A CHALLENGE THAT HE DEARLY LOVED.
MACK WAS VERY DISCIPLINED IN HIS EXERCISE WORKOUT ETHIC, AND WAS A REGULAR AT THE PRESIDENT’S HEALTH CLUB FOR YEARS. HE LATER BUILT A WORKOUT GYM IN HIS HOME. HE ALWAYS FOUND A WAY TO INCLUDE HIS EXERCISE ROUTINE, EVEN WHILE TRAVELING.
MACK WAS AN ASHFORD MEMORIAL SOFTBALL COACH FOR NINE YEARS, WINNING TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS. THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED MACK ENJOYED HIS SENSE OF HUMOR, ESPCIALLY DURING AND AFTER DINNERS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS, REMINISCING AND SHARING STORIES. MACK LOVED HIS SCHZAUNERS, SPIKE AND SASSY, HIS BEACH HOUSE AND RANCH. HE ENJOYED FISHING AND EATING FROM HIS VEGETABLE GARDEN. HE HAD A GREAT LOVE OF SPORTS, AND ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON GAMES, AND OLE MISS, THE NEW YORK YANKEES AND THE TEXANS.
MACK ENJOYED LISTENING TO POLKA AND LATINO MUSIC. THE ACCORDIAN WAS HIS FAVORITE INSTRUMENT. HE AND HIS FAMILY MADE YEARLY TRIPS TO NEW BRAUNFELS TO ATTEND WUERSTFEST.
MACK WAS A MEMBER AND DEACON OF SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH AND THE TICKET TO HEAVEN BIBLE STUDY CLASS. HE WAS THE1000TH MASTER/LIFE GRADUATE , DIRECTOR OF GREAT CHARACTERS CLASS AND THE FOUNTAIN CLASS. MASTER/LIFE LEADER, AND A MENTOR OF YOUNG PEOPLE. MACK WAS A DEMOLAY, A 32ND DEGREE MASON AND A SHRINER. IN 1976 HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE BOOK OF OUTSTANDING YOUNG TEXANS.
MACK WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN FOR THE LEGACY HE HAS GIVEN TO US. HE HAD A GREAT CAPACITY TO LOVE AND HELP OTHERS. HE ALSO HAD A WONDERFUL ZEST FOR LIFE AND WILL ALWAYS LIVE ON IN OUR HEARTS. WE KNOW THAT HE IS NOW IN THAT BLESED ETERNAL REST WITH OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR AND LOVED ONES WHO HAVE GONE ON BEFORE. HE WOULD WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION A PERSON CAN MAKE IN LIFE IS TO MAKE JESUS CHRIST THEIR LORD AND SAVIOUR. HIS FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE WAS JOHN 3:16 “FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.”
THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR MACK WILL BE ON SEPTEMBER 7, AT 1:00 P.M. IN THE HANKAMER CHAPEL OF SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH, WOODWAY CAMPUS, WITH DR. GARY MOORE OFFICIATING. THERE WILL BE A PRIVATE FAMILY INTERMENT AT MEMORIAL OAKS CEMETERY LATER, WITH PASTOR DAVID BOLLING OFFICIATING.
