Ly Heang passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 1st 2021, following a 7 year battle with cancer. He was born in Takeo, Cambodia, where he graduated nursing school. He worked in various positions including army nursing, public health, and ophthalmology. He left Cambodia to escape the Khmer Rouge- a communist takeover resulting in genocide. From sleeping along the roads to staying in refugee camps, he overcame many obstacles to give his family a better life. Ly immigrated to the United States in 1981, where he served the city of Houston at Bush International Airport for 26 years.
Anyone who came across Ly knew he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family member, and friend. He was a nurturing provider to his family, whom he always sacrificed for. Ly was courageous, funny, caring, and charismatic. He was extremely intelligent and could speak 3 languages. He was a leader in many ways. One of his many contributions was his involvement at Wat Khemararam. He loved spending time with his family, traveling the world with his loved ones, watching game shows, and the NBA. Ly influenced those around him in a deep and positive way. His strength and perseverance will be carried among those who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Nay Ly Heang, his children, Tera Heang, Vic Heang, Vutheara Heang, Vutheary Lazo, and his grandchildren, Judy Heang, Christina Heang, Kevin Heang, Elise Heang, Ian Heang, Madelina Lazo, and Olivia Lazo.
