She was born on May 30, 1924 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She graduated with a secretarial course at Ponce Senior High School. She went on to work for the Health Department of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
In 1950, Luz moved to New York with her husband Francisco Perez-Santiago upon his return from military service in World War II. She worked at the Bulova (watch makers) Company in Queens, New York. Shortly thereafter, Luz and Francisco then opened and operated a neighborhood grocery store in the Bronx, New York.
In 1961, Luz and Francisco returned to Puerto Rico with their children. Sometime thereafter, they purchased and managed a dry cleaning business for several years.
In 1980, Luz and her husband followed their children to Texas. After a lengthy illness, Francisco passed away peacefully in 1996. He was placed to rest with military honors at the Houston Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Luz will also be laid to rest beside her lifetime love.
Luz is survived by her two children Frank E. Perez and Luz Tamara Perez, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Luz loved music, dancing, traveling, good food and working in her yard with her husband. She helped everyone she could and had many friends and acquaintances. She was a great mother and an even better grandmother. She was a strong and strict woman but fair and caring. She provided her two children with financial support to purchase their first homes.
Her life was full of accomplishments. An outstanding woman but most importantly a child of God. Luz is now resting in peace in God's loving arms.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.earthmanhunterscreek.com for the Perez family.
