Lucy Ray Pegues

Lucy is survived by her children, Chris Leis and husband, Jon; Linda Pegues Campbell and husband, Mike; Lex Pegues and wife, Pam; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Also considered her “kids" were at least a thousand swimmers she taught, coached, and loved.

Lucy graduated from Weslaco High School in 1946 and University of Texas in May of 1950, married Alex H. Pegues Jr. in 1951, and was a devoted wife, mother, and Mimi. Although she was an accomplished school teacher, swim team coach, piano instructor, accompanist and gardener, she enjoyed and invested in the people she encountered more than the activity itself.

A celebration of Lucy’s life is planned for this fall at THE Pool where she taught and coached for 40 years.
