He worked as a railroad laborer for a period. He was a plumber by trade. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Houston Rockets, Astros, and the Texans. He loved cooking home meals, and eating soul food, especially pork cracklins, hog head cheese, and mackerel patties.
He was a believer in Christ and had a spiritual side. He believed in helping others and would take in other people’s children when they needed somewhere to stay and at one time raised other children. He enjoyed having conversations with people and sharing stories of his experiences and seem to have found them more enriching than material riches. He expressed a desire in his later years to journey out and pray for others.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, children Lorenzo Leonard, Octavius Leonard, James Douglas Needham, Gregory George Needham, and Brenda Joyce Needham, brothers, Roosevelt (Abe) Leonard (Tylertown MS), Luther Charles Leonard (Houston, TX), Ruby Leonard, (Tylertown MS) J.D. Leonard, (Tylertown MS), and Cesar Leonard (Tylertown MS), sisters Alberta Leonard Davis and Allene Leonard Smith (Gulfport MS).
Memories of him will endure in the hearts of many. Those left to treasure and preserve his memory include, a devoted spouse, Jocelyn Hudson, one brother Harold Leonard (Ora D. Leonard) Tylertown, Mississippi, five sons, Terry Lamar Needham, Antonio Lewis Leonard, Arthur Ray Leonard, Percival Leonard, and Tory Leonard, twenty-five grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
