Lloyd C. Philips, age 93 died August 29, 2017. Born June 29, 1924 to parents Clyde and Elsie Philips in LaGrange, Texas. His parents moved to Beaumont, Texas where Lloyd attended Beaumont schools. Graduating from Beaumont High School in 1941. Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps December 1942 serving in the U.S. until discharged in February 1946. He was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad in Beaumont and Houston where he was transferred in 1952. He married Laura Marie Sharp of Great Bend, Kansas on May 3, 1947. Lloyd was also employed by the Houston Port Bureau and Riviana Foods where he retired as Traffic Manager in 1983. Lloyd was a Past President of the Transportation Club of Houston, past Chairman of South Texas Chapter of I.C.C. Practitioners, President of Southwest Shippers Advisory Board and Chairman of the Railroad Rates & Practices Committee of the National Industrial Traffic League. He worked part time for Paul L. Broussard & Associates from 1989 until 2009.
Lloyd has been a member of Park Place Baptist Church for 61 years having served as a Bible Teacher and Chairman of the Deacons along with ministry at Star of Hope and leading bible study at Briarwood Nursing Home. He is survived by his three children, Paul and wife Trudy, Kathy Fowler and husband Steve, and Nancy Philips; by four grandchildren Mandi Smith, Dawn Fowler-Bennett and husband Ed, Krista Grether and husband Mark and Keith Philips and three great-grandchildren Hunter Smith, Cameron Smith and Malia Vargas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 12, 2017 at Crespo Funeral Home, 4136 Broadway, Houston, Texas 77087. Burial was held Forest Park East.
