Lloyd was born on September 26, 1944 to Albert and Evie Kelley in Highlands, Texas, one of eight children. He grew up in Cloverleaf, Texas and attended Galena Park High School. As Co-Captain of the Yellow Jacket Football team, Lloyd helped the team achieve three 12-AAAA District Titles and represented Galena Park in the state play-offs for three straight years. After graduating High School, Lloyd attended Auburn University, then later the University of Tulsa.
In 1966, Lloyd enlisted in the US Army, honorably serving in Nuremberg, Germany and earning the rank of Sergeant. He married MaryAnn McCauley in 1970 and started a family, eventually having five children. He was a kind, gentle and resourceful man who always was up for a home project or good conversation. In 1988, Lloyd married his soulmate, Joyce Pyatte, who lovingly referred to him as “Kelley” for 34 years. They continued to reside in the Houston area until his passing.
Always the hard worker, Lloyd worked for BP from 1998-2014, then continued to be of service even after retiring as your friendly neighborhood Home Depot associate until 2017. He never knew a stranger and could easily chat for hours reminiscing about old football or service days. Lloyd was also a lover of his daily walks and his favorite furry friend, Izzy.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his only son, Bryan W. Kelley; his parents, Albert and Evie Kelley; his three brothers, James Albert, Billy J. Kelley and William N. Kelley; and his three sisters Wanda Jean Kelley, Eunice Ruth Pennington and Betty Lou Moore.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Kelley; his sister Joy Pena; his daughter Guenevere Cargill (Shane) of Hockley, TX with their children Brandon, Brianna and Ryan; his daughter Hannah Perez (Michael) of Houston, Texas with their children, Anderson and Aiden; his daughter Heather Olsen (David) of Macomb, MI with their children, Abigail, Claire, and Elliot; his daughter Priscilla Knieriem (Brian) of Mars, PA with their children, Samantha and Andrew; as well as his vast and cherished extended Kelley Family.
A graveside service with military funeral honors will be held on Friday, the 27th of January at 10:30am at the Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX. A reception will be held after the ceremony at the Kleinbook Clubhouse, located at 5019 Innsbruk Drive, Houston, Texas.
The family would like to thank his supportive neighbors and the Cy-Fair Harris County EMS Department for their attention, as well as the caring staff and nurses of Bristol Park at Cypress Memory Care for their humored companionship with our father. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Lloyd’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
