Linda Lee Like was born in San Antonio on August 20, 1954, to Doris and Robert Like. For 2 years, she was an only child but in 1956 was joined by her brother, Richard Dean. Linda lived in San Antonio all the way until she graduated high school. After graduation, she didn’t want to move far from home, so she enrolled at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas. Eventually she transferred to Incarnate Word, graduating in 1976.
Some would say that Linda was called to teach, and that is true. She did teach in various schools over the years, but her calling went by the classroom. She was called to not just teach, she was called to nurture, protect and care for all children, whether they were in her classroom or not.
Little did Linda know that her life would be turned upside down when she agreed to a blind date. That first date turned into another and another and another and on August 12, 1978, Linda Lee Like married Kim Robert Young and they began a family. It took a few years, but they would bring 3 amazing kids into the world, Jamie, Robert and James.
Linda would take a sabbatical from teaching to raise their 3 children. But you couldn’t keep her away from the school. She became a volunteer for her kid’s school. She made herself available not just for her own kids, but for every kid in the school, even if it meant handling the hissing cockroaches.
She was a woman with an incredible sense of humor; someone who loved to laugh. She had an artistic side of her which she highlighted through her amazing needlepoint pieces. She tolerated then actually began to enjoy Indy Car Racing. She had a passion for reading as well as a love for watching all types of movies.
It is impossible to sum up Linda’s life in a few words. However, the rock group Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were able to in one of their biggest hits: “Teach the children well…” and that is what Linda did with her whole life.
Linda is preceded in death by her dad, Robert and her brother Richard. She is survived by her mom, Doris. She is also survived by her daughter Jamie, son Robert and daughter in law Erica with her grandchildren Josephine, William and her youngest son James. And lets not forget her 2 dogs Khaleesi and Percy. She also leaves behind the many friends and a number of children she affected, more than we will ever know.
