Laura Provenzano Romano

Laura Provenzano Romano passed away peacefully on the 28th of June 2010, at the age of 97. Laura was born in Chicago, Illinois on the 24th of January 1913, the daughter of Modesta and Pietro Provenzano. She graduated from the Ward School and the Englewood Business College in Chicago. In 1942, she worked for the Fifth Army Headquarters and the American National Red Cross.

Laura moved to Houston, Texas with her husband Louis Romano after their wedding in February 1952. She was an active volunteer in many charity organizations and a member of the Conservative Arts Houston. She also received many awards for her beautiful oil paintings that were exhibited in Houston and surrounding areas.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Romano, sister, Anna, and brother-in-law, John Pitisci. She is survived by her nieces, Marian Mannix and husband Gerald, Anna McCormick and husband James; grandnieces, Deborah Palacios and husband Jose, Kimberly McCormick, Deanne Carswell, Sharon Graeber and husband Jason; great-grandnieces, Lisa Elder, Christina and Megan Carswell, Alila and Marlow Graeber; and great-grandnephew, Gabriel Palacios.

The family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff at The Vosswood Nursing Center, Odyssey Hospice, and her caregiver, Sandy Walker, for their love, affection, and care they provided.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from eleven o’clock in the morning until half-past noon on Thursday, the 1st of July, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. At half-past noon, Deacon Jack Alexander, of St. Michael Catholic Church, is to lead a recitation of the Holy Rosary. Immediately following the Rosary, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer.

Afterwards, the family is to gather for a private Rite of Committal and entombment in the Mausoleum of Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Mrs. Romano may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
