Larry James Hubbard, PE, age 70 passed away January 18, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Larry was a lifelong Houstonian, graduated S. F. Austin High School in 1964 and Texas A & M University in August, 1975. He is survived by his wife, Zhiling Li Hubbard, his son Thom Mitchell with spouse Catherine Schomer, his sister Kathy McClain Williams and her husband Joe B. Williams, granddaughter Elizabeth Mitchell, two nephews Bart Williams and Alex Williams, a grandniece Lexie Williams and a grandnephew Luke Williams.
Larry served in the US. Navy as a “Nuke” on board the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam conflict from 1967 through 1971 and was always proud of his service and the education the Navy gave him in nuclear power. The received education served him well throughout his professional working career. After graduating from Texas A&M Larry began his professional career working for Brown & Root in Saudi Arabia as a scheduler. He continued working on construction projects around the world working in places like Russia, Korea, Greece and good ole South Texas. Having most recently worked for Orcas Project Controls, Larry had previously been employed by Swift Oil and Gas, Faulkner Const., Fluor Engineering, Audobon, Brown and Root, Utility Fuels and Crest Engineering, as well as others in his 35+ years in project and construction management. He worked in Houston, Texas, and oversees in such locations as South Korea, Germany, China, and Saudi Arabia.
Larry loved being on the water in Galveston Bay or Carancahua Bay fishing, something Larry did all of his life with family and friends.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Bart Williams, Alex Williams, Thom Mitchell, Mike Stone, Frank Neely and Jim Burchett. Honorary pallbearers are Dewey Trey Helmcamp and David Hunt.
The family will accept friends at Forest Park Lawndale funeral home on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 9:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00pm with the interment to follow.
