Kyle Thomas Rice

He was born on December 30, 1959 in Houston, Texas to Thomas And Rachel Rice. He received most of his public education in the Sheldon Independent School District and graduated from C.E. King High School in May of 1978. He attended Rice University on a 4 year football scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Managerial Studies in December 1982.

Kyle married his high school sweetheart, Pam, on August 6, 1983 and they were married for 36 years at the time of his passing. They have one daughter, Emily, and a son, Jeremy.

He began working as a City of Houston firefighter in 1986 and remained dedicated to his profession until he retired in June 2018 as a result of his cancer diagnosis. In addition to his work as a firefighter, he provided telephone and communication repair services to Anheuser Busch Brewery for many years, umpired all levels of baseball, served as President of Sheldon Little League from 2001-2014 and is a lifetime member of Sheldon Youth Athletic Association. He also maintained the fields at SLL and spent numerous hours mowing grass and preparing fields for games. He enjoyed many outdoor and sports activities including golf, hunting, fishing and snow skiing. Kyle also served as a Commissioner for ESD #2. Kyle and his wife are members of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Spring, Texas.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pam; children, Emily Rice, Jeremy Rice and his fiancé Victoria Coleman; brothers, Michael Rice and wife Marilyn of Livingston, Gary Rice of Livingston, Chris Rice and wife Mindy of Livingston; sister, Teresa McVeigh of Brunswick Maine; nieces Heather Hilchey and husband Christian of Austin, Katy Magee and husband JimPat of Denton, Meghan McBride and husband Nick of Nova Scotia, Canada, Tessa Rice, Cassy Rice of Livingston; nephew, Sean McVeigh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kyle also has 3 great-nieces, Audrey, Ella and Kenzie, and 2 great nephews, Dean and Nathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel V. & Thomas J. Rice, Jr. brother, Craig and brother-in-law, Greg McVeigh.

The Rice Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 5:30-8:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 10:00am at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 500 E. Oak Hill Dr., Spring, TX 77386, 281-367-9721. Committal will be held later at 1:00 pm at N.H. Rice Cemetery in Leggett, Texas.

The family is accepting floral/plant arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the N. H. Rice Cemetery Association; 107 Holly Hill Dr., Livingston, TX 77351.
