Kathryn Ann Loria Plainos, 78, of Houston, Texas, passed away on November 9, 2024. She was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas, in 1945 to John and Margaret Loria, who adored their only daughter.
Kathy grew up in the Heights and attended John H. Reagan High School and soon after graduation married Athan Nick Plainos. She went on to start her family and had adorable twin girls.
Kathy was a strong woman and after her divorce from Athan, she singlehandedly raised her daughters. She was an easy-going parent. But when we were out and misbehaving, she could immediately make Annie and I straighten up with just seven words that she hissed through her teeth, "You just wait till we get home." Once home, she did nothing while Annie and I worried about being punished, but we never were punished. We fell for it every single time it was spoken to us, which was almost on a weekly basis.
Kathy collected brass knicknacks and enjoyed antiquing for them. She loved jewelry, especially rings. The bigger and gaudier the rings were, the more she loved them, and she was able to pull the look off when most couldn't.
Kathy also never met a stranger. No matter where she went, she could always strike up a conversation with anyone, and they would be laughing by the end of the conversation.
Kathy will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, and we couldn’t have asked for a better mother and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, John Loria; her mother, Margaret Loria; and her three brothers, Frank, Leonard, and John Loria. She is survived by her daughters, Terrie Pool and her husband, Gary; Ann Record and her husband, Breck; sister-in-law, Lee Loria; her cousin, Frank Beniretto; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is Monday, November 18, 2024, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the Grand Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with her committal service to follow on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery.
