Well done, good and faithful servant! Kathy was called home to her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2014 after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. She was a loving wife of 51 years, devoted mom, Mimi, faithful servant, cheerleader, hero and an inspiring, generous friend to all who knew her.
She fiercely and bravely battled cancer the way she lived her life ~ with grace, faith, determination, passion and a joyful heart. Throughout this journey, she never lost faith, hope or her love for life.
Kathy was born in Tobias, NE on October 30, 1938 to Dallas and Leona Sieckmann. She was raised in the Lutheran church. After graduation from Sydney, NE High School, Kathy attended Kearney State Teachers College, where she was an active member of Kappa Alpha Phi. She moved to Denver, CO, worked at Denver U.S. National Bank and met the love of her life, Don Adams. They were married on November 16, 1963 and moved to Oklahoma City, OK. Shortly thereafter, their two daughters, Amy and Stephanie, were born. Even as she relocated, she never lost her devotion to Nebraska Cornhusker football.
During the 26 years in OKC, Kathy was an active member of Chapel Hill UMC. She served on the board & various committees, Altar Guild, children & youth ministries and helped begin a prayer group. Additionally, Kathy was a Past President of Geologist Wives and remained active in that association.
The role she was born to play was that of SuperMom. Her family was her pride & joy. Kathy was deeply committed to her family and all of the girls’ activities. As a homemaker, she energetically volunteered for the PTA, room mom, class chaperone and absolutely loved her membership in the Pi Beta Phi Moms Club. Kathy had a gift for hospitality! She created a warmth in the home that was inviting and welcoming to all who entered. Friends, strangers and drop-ins alike felt welcomed, loved & saw Christ shining through her.
When Don & Kathy relocated to Houston, she enthusiastically embraced her new community. Before long, she was serving as a board member for Klein UMC, and served on different committees. Kathy was a member of P.E.O. Chapter FC, Houston and later became a charter member of P.E.O. IX, Houston. She gave willingly of her time and volunteered countless hours to various organizations, including Houston Northwest Hospital, NAM, Harris County Election Board, and Operation Interdependence.
Kathy had an amazing way of making everyone around her feel special with her kind spirit, infectious smile and warm heart. This was evident when she was surrounded by her dear friends from multiple tennis leagues, bridge groups, bunko, Bible studies, Sunday school class and P.E.O sisters.
Her light shone especially bright when she was around her beloved grandkids, who adored their Mimi. Her greatest joy was playing with, cheering on, praying for and encouraging her 4 grandchildren
.
We want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at M.D. Anderson for their loving care during the past year and a half.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of almost 51 years, Don Adams; daughters, Amy Adams Chairez (Duke), Stephanie Adams Davis (Jon); grandchildren, Ellie & Ben Chairez, Emma & Hannah Davis; sister, Sharon Bauerkemper; sisters-in-law, Gwen Sieckmann and Lynne Bussell; nieces, nephews, beloved dog, Abbie, and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on September 20, 2014 at Klein UMC at 2 p.m., with a reception immediately following the service.
