Kathleen M. Childress Ward was called home to our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, the 15th of March 2023, from the Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas, at 75 years of age. She was born to Joe T. and Leona J. Wallace Childress on the 27th of July 1947, in Ft. Worth, Texas.
She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1965 and four years later from Texas Christian University where she was an active member of the Delta Gamma sorority. After college, Kathy moved to Houston and began her career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T from which she retired many years later.
She met the love of her life, Charles Thomas Ward in Houston and they were married on Staten Island on the 2nd of December 1989. They shared almost 30 years together enjoying the city and their country home near Shelby, Texas, where Kathy became an avid supporter of the Arts of Rural Texas. She created many beautiful water color paintings.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, William Walter Childress of Rhome, Texas.
She is survived by her nephews, Scott Childress and his wife Michelle, and his daughter, Taylor and Jeff Childress and his daughter, Sophia. She is also survived by Tom’s nephews, Jeff Landry and his wife, Melinda, and Dr. Joel Landry and his wife Dr. Cheryl Landry, and their daughters, Lauren and Alexis.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to her faithful caregivers over the last three years and to the nurses and staff who made her feel at home on the twenty-first floor of the Walter Tower at the Houston Methodist Hospital.
We all will miss her generous, hospitable spirit. We continue inspired by her strength and bravery.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathy's life will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Monday, the 24th of April in the chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive in Houston.
Immediately following all are invited to greet the family at a reception to be held in nearby parlor.
