Kathleen Mary Kunec, loving daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away on October 4, 2021. Kathy was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 16, 1959, and was the first of seven children for Joseph and Barbara Kunec.
Kathy was exceptionally close to her family, and adored her nieces and nephews especially. She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed sitting outside and going on walks, never missing the chance to stop and pet every dog along the way. Kathy had a true caregiver’s heart, full of generosity and kindness, and she was fiercely loyal and loving to those lucky enough to know her. Throughout her life, she sought every opportunity to care for others.
Caring for Kathy in her final weeks, it became really evident how much she was loved in return – by doctors, nurses, staff and residents within her community. The love was overwhelming and heart-warming, and not at all surprising. This girl who spent her whole life loving others was loved so hard in return. The genuine kindness and compassion she consistently extended to others came back to her ten-fold. It was a beautiful thing to watch.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Kunec. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Disser Kunec, of Houston, and six brothers and sisters: Theresa Milcik and husband, Paul, of Fulshear; Patricia Boushka and husband, Jim, of Austin; Kevin Kunec and fiancé, Laura Manion, of Houston; Bridget Riha and husband, Stephen, of Houston; Sean Kunec and wife, Amber, of Pearland; and Brian Kunec and wife, Terrie, of Hanalei, Hawaii. She is also survived by her much beloved nieces and nephews: Bridget Boushka, of Portland, Oregon; Bryce Boushka, of Dallas; Baileigh and Peighton Riha, of Houston; and Ella, Aidan, and Emma Kunec, of Pearland.
Kathy’s family will receive friends for a Vigil and visitation on November 17, 2021 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 5:15 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas. A Catholic funeral Mass and celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on November 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, Texas. Immediately following the Mass, a private graveside service will be held for family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Kathy may be made to the Bulldog Club of America Rescue Network, 5753 Highway 85 North #4404, Crestview, Florida 32356-9365, www.rescuebulldogs.org. Kathy had an incredible love for all animals, but her love really overflowed in abundance for the slobbery but sweet English bulldogs, Mugsy and Jiggs, that she shared with her very dear friend, Patrick Neatherton.
