Katherine Sonnen Miller, a lifelong Houstonian, passed peacefully on the 5th of December surrounded by her loving family. Mimi, as she was known to family and friends, was born on the 24th of April 1930, the daughter of John Herman Sonnen and Katherine Abbie Mulvey.
After graduating from San Jacinto High School, Katherine went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company. In 1950 Katherine married the love of her life, Mark Z. Miller. They spent 68 years traveling, skiing, gardening and enjoying time with friends and family. Katherine was blessed with artistic talent. She lovingly made beautiful porcelain dolls, complete with period clothing and toys. In later years, she doted on Rexxii, her rescue canine. She loved relaxing in the yard with Poppy and Rex (and later with her “pet” squirrels and possums). Katherine met every day of her long life with a positive attitude and a cheerful disposition.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Katherine Miller Magner and her husband Robert; son Mark Sonnen Miller and his wife Diana; granddaughter Katrina Nicole Stephenson and her husband Drew; and her great grandchildren Barrett, Ellie Kate and Liv Stephenson.
A memorial service and celebration of Katherine’s life is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 14th of December in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
