Judith McEntee Steadman, a long time Houston resident, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, the 8th of April 2019, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Judy was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend.
Judy was born in Ventura, California on the 10th of December 1944, to James Robert “J.R.” McEntee and Lillian Maxine Kingsbury. She moved to Houston in 1952 and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1962. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in 1966 and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. While in school, Judy met her husband Charlie, and they wed in Houston in 1967.
Judy taught middle school math in Spring Branch ISD, Austin ISD and Bronxville, New York. She and Charlie moved back to Houston in 1974 after residing in Miami, Florida and Princeton, New Jersey. She retired from teaching to start a family and later resumed substitute teaching in Spring Branch while her children were in school. After her girls went to college, Judy worked at Harold Powell for several years. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends, her lunch groups and jogging at Memorial Park.
She always enjoyed summer vacations with her family being by the water at Lake McQueeney, Horseshoe Bay and Rosemary Beach. She felt lucky to have taken trips last summer with her immediate family to Wyoming and a river cruise with her husband, sister and brother-in-law.
Judy was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed the music and The Forest Club where she played tennis in her earlier years, dined and spent time at the pool.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Susan McEntee Yarter. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Steadman, and her two daughters, Nancy Steadman Magilton and husband Michael Magilton and Kathy Steadman, and beloved granddaughters Emily, Charlotte and Madeline Magilton, all of Houston. Judy is also survived by her sister Marguerite Dyal and her husband Bill Dyal and brother-in-law Jim Yarter.
A memorial service and reception to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, on Monday, the 15th of April, at eleven o’clock in the morning.
The family requests that in lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Judy’s memory can be directed toward The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O.
