Juana Maria Sanguinetti, 75, went to join our Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by her family. Juana Maria was born in Uruguay on January 16, 1947, to Rogelio and Juana Mernies. She was the youngest of nine children. She married Fredy Sanguinetti in 1962, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. As a wife and mother, she dedicated herself to caring for her husband and their three children—Sandra, Shirley and Fredy.
In 1980 she and her husband emigrated from Uruguay to the United States settling in Houston, Texas and later moving to Katy, Texas to be near their children. As a young couple, Juana and her husband both worked to help support their children and provide them with an opportunity for a great life.
Juana was lovingly referred to as “Aya” by her many grandchildren, named so by her first-born grandson, Brandon. She never missed a chance to cheer each of them on at their sporting events, performances, and activities. Her home was always spotless and open for visits and their favorite foods always stocked her fridge. She was famous for her tortas fritas, dulce de leche cakes, empanadas, milanesa and homemade gnocchi. She never missed a birthday and Christmas was truly a spectacular event in her household.
Juana Maria is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Juana Maria is survived by her husband Fredy Sanguinetti, her three children—Sandra (Arthur) Lopez from Pearland Texas, Shirley (Juan) Villescas from Pharr, Texas and Fredy (Carrie) Sanguinetti from Katy, Texas; her grandchildren Brandon, Bryan and Sabrina Lopez, Nicholas and Christian Villescas, and Arielle, Trey and Roger Sanguinetti; two great-grandchildren Anthony and Lionel Lopez.
Juana’s family would like to thank the family and friends who have sent their prayers and calls during this difficult time and her children would like to thank their Dad for his unwavering support and care of their Mother, especially during these last few years.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 pm with a 2 pm service on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway in the Reflection Lake Estates. Robert L. Waltrip Memorial Chapel at the Texas Liberty Mausoleum.
