He was a very mischievous child.....promoted from kindergarten to first grade because he poked a hole in the teacher's drum...at 13, he and a friend turned over the outhouse with grandma inside....he blew up a commode at school with a cherry bomb....received 80 paddlings in high school because you always got a Coke afterwards....and on and on the adventures went.
As a teenager, he had various jobs, from working in the plum sheds to running the local gas station and cleaning tables in the school cafeteria.
Joe was in the school band for five years. He played trumpet, coronet, fugal horn, melophone, baritone, and the base horn....but he never learned o read music. Upon graduation in 1955, he joined the Navy. The day he came home from the Navy, he got a job at the local light company. His main career was at DuPont Chemical from 1959-1993. He loved to hunt, but his favorite thing to do was mowing yards on his riding mower. He accepted Christ in 1961 and loved serving the Lord.
Joe was always a hard worker and provided well for his family. Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 51 years, Julia Alexander; his children Lonnie Ray Alexander & wife Dolly, Kurtis Joe Alexander & wife Martha, Julie Marie Wells and Sabrina Marie Mabry; his grandchildren Zachary B. Alexander, Katy A. Alexander, Kara A. Webster & husband Brandon, Jeffrey J. Alexander, Derrick D. Alexander & wife Heather, Jessica R. Moore, Elizabeth C. Wells, Emily M. Wells, Matthew B. Mabry and Grace E. Mabry; great-grandchildren Gracyn R. Bradford, Nicholas H. Alexander, Keygan M. Alexander, Kennadi G. Alexander, Elijah J. Alexander, Kandence Alexander and Landon Alexander; in-laws and nieces and nephews.
