Joe a very loved brother by all who knew you.  My heart 💜 has broken into many pieces.  I will miss your name calling: Rola, Caca, to name only a few!  You always made time to talk to me or our parents😊. Always ready for coffee and cookies.  ❤️ your silly jokes & things that you saw and made fun of😜. I remember you driving us, cousins and friends in Dad’s station wagon in the late 1960’s in downtown Houston and you would honk and wave goodbye laughing 😂 .  The time in the Monte Alto Elementary school when you were going to be presented a Certificate of Perfect Attendances and your shoes 👞 tore and went on up to the Auditorium to receive your Certificate barefoot 👏. You were not a bright student at first but you made sure someone helped you to get better grades- you got help from Aunt Margot Villanueva and Uncle Alfredo Villanueva who were both teachers in Reynosa Tamaulipas Mexico 🇲🇽 you were one persistent young boy😊. Joe had an accident while wrestling  with one of the Uresti older boys next door and you broke your right hip and leg.  Was taken to Maternal Grandparents:  Mariano and Clarita Ramos Villanueva’s home in Reynosa after the doctors put a cast on your hip and legs and a piece of wood between your legs to heal.  While in Reynosa the Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Grandparents and other friends spoiled you🤪. You once drew a picture of a naked man and everyone laughed 😂 and joked about it.  I guess that’s when you became the Artist 👨‍🎤.  Your Pan American University (Texas A&M now) artwork was so much fun for you and us and  your college best friend Ray Rodriguez- you guys went out and collected ricks, leaves, sticks and dried dog poop and created artwork for a school project ☺️  He was always looking for ways to make us laugh 😆 or irritate us😂. He also worked as an Employment Counselor for SER JOBS FOR PROGRESS at the Little York location in Houston Texas and also with INTERFAITH in the Woodlands and Katy Texas 👍🏼  People 💗 him he was very compassionate in -to be conti

Brother all I can say is you were one special man. Great husband, father son and brother, you were the ultimate. I will miss you so much ,  I will miss all the memories we made growing-up and thereafter.  you set the bar High for me and everyone else who knew you.  It's hard to say in words what an awsome man you were while on this earth . I 
 know that if I want to see you again I will have to go to heaven.  Hugs for mom , dad, JR, Licha, Joe and all our amazing family.  Rest in peace my brother you are forever in my heart!

So when I met Mr. Tijerina for the first time he was very kind, but I knew he was interested and concerned that his Daughter, Dayna was with someone who would treat her right. Mr. T was always a very fair person and didn't judge me, but trusted his Daughter's choice when she introduced me to the family. Over the years as Dayna and I dated and then got engaged, the family was always close. Dayna would always talk about how great of a coach her Dad was, how she got her ability to run like a deer from him, and what a good man he was. Even though Mr. T  was so sick, he always had a positive attitude and would crack a joke to make you smile. I will never forget the night of our wedding and watching him dance with all three of his daughters in the ballroom. He really lit it up on our special night. I hope Mr. Tijerina knows that his Daughter and his soon to be Grandson will always be taken care of with love and compassion, just the same way that Mr. Tijerina loved his family. 

I am so sorry to hear he is gone. Joe was my favorite coach and I am so thankful for the many happy years of softball we got with him coaching us every step of the way. Lots of love to you all ❤️

My family and Mr. and Mrs. Tijerina took a trip together, back 7 years ago. We spent a couple of days in Chicago, drove to Michigan to stay with Mr. Tijerina's Aunt and Uncle and then took numerous road trips all throughout Michigan. This was one of the best trips I've ever had, I have so many fun memories. 

One of the funniest moments I had with Mr. Tijerina was during this trip. We were walking through downtown Chicago and Mr. Tijerina started to freeze up, his medicines wore off and we had forgot to bring more. He was fine as long as he was moving, but as soon as he stopped moving, he locked up. When he locked up, you could tell it took an intense amount of focus before his body would cooperate. 

With all the crosswalks in Chicago it took a painful long time to move several blocks. Mr. T and I had to come up with a plan if we were to make it back to the hotel in a reasonable amount of time. Our plan was, I would run ahead of him, figure out which light was about to change and press the cross walk button in that direction and have him chase after me. We figured out how to time this perfect, I had to run back and forth while he ran after through 10 to 15 intersections, only stopping one or twice. We were giggling like little school kids as we jogged through every intersection, and after each intersection it became more and more hilarious to us. I'm sure the people watching us, thought we were fools, running through these intersections, cracking up laughing, but we didn't care.

It wasn't difficult to have a fun moment with Mr. Tijerina. He had such a light hearted spirit and he made sure to appreciated the little moments and truly love the ones around him. You felt his love, always. He absolutely lived his life in faith and he was a constant reminder to me, life is easier if you just do what god wants you to do. 

I'm going to miss Mr. Tijerina, tremendously, but I'm better for having known him. Until we see each other again, RIP, Mr. Tijerina.

My favorite memory of Joe (Known as Popo in our house), was seeing him sitting outside in his lawn chair watching the all of the kids in the neighborhood play and run around him.  When I think of Popo, I think of the perfect afternoon, when the kids are playing and he’s sitting there with a smile on his face just watching them. His grandchildren genuinely brought him joy. I think about how much Emmy and Roman loved him. So much that Emmy and Hazel came up with some silly song and ended up calling each other Popo for days.. Still not quite sure why, but after that, Hazel always looked for Popo when we went out. She made sure to always  ask about him when he wasn’t outside and always looked for him. Every time we go outside, I will forever think of him.

  Hazel, myself, my family and all of the neighborhood miss you. Please shine down on us when days are tough and remind us to all stay strong. 

My fond memory of Cousin Joe takes place in Monte Alto in their backyard.  He and Mike? and friends are practicing their music in a shed or room outside.   I remember his smile and sweet gentle soul.  Cousin, your daughter's tributes gave us a glimpse of a beautiful life and family.  Your love for the Lord in Whose presence you now stand is your reward.  
May The Lord's Peace which surpasses all understanding be with the family in the days ahead.

My condolences to Joe's family and the Tijerina family. You will be Miss from MONTE ALTO  TEXAS to Houston TEXAS .  GOD  has  received another ANGEL in HEAVEN. 

My condolences to Joes family and the Tijerina family.  I enjoyed-talking and praying with Joe at the Tijerina family reunion .  He will always be remembered by his great character and the love for playing in his band  The Fifth Page.  I remember they played 96 tears and Brown eyed girl..  I was inspired to pick up the guitar by listening to my older cousins  play and sing in Monte Alto, Tx.  There is a lot of music  and athletic  talent in the Tijerina  Family. Joe was a loving, kind, caring man.  He was always there to add a helping hand to help others.  He was also a snake killer when one got caught in between our sliding patio door Joe came to Penny's rescue and took care of it!  He will be greatly missed in the neighborhood.  May he Rest In Peace! Cousin Joe, I will always remember your easy smile and soft and gentle way about you. Growing up, I remember enjoying the band you played in and how proud I was to be a part of the Tijerina family. The last time I seen you was at the family reunion in San Antonio, Texas. The disease was evident but you didn’t let it stop you from sharing and enjoying your time with all of the family. My prayer is that God will continue to bless your family and that they will keep looking up. I can’t  until we meet again on that beautiful sea of glass!

Dad was THE Dad. He was the Dad that offered to take every friend home with us in the back of his blue pick up. He was the Dad that jumped off the roof to scare every kid on Halloween. He was the Dad that would take his time to patiently go over our homework. He was the Dad you could ask for advice & those words were always well thought out. He was the Dad that would take me out to practice softball no matter the weather elements everyday for 1-2 hours. He coached 32 teams total & I know every single one of those girls & Assistant Coaches he personally touched. He had a very kind way with people. He radiated an empathetic smile through his beautiful and kind eyes. 

My heart will forever be broken, will forever be changed because of the man God blessed me with to call Dad. Every time I see a softball field, basketball court, hear a good oldies song (Oh Girl by The Chil Lites specifically), see a beautiful work of art or see a Dad playing with his kids I will always think of you. 

Your girl, your Kat, your Rock, your Wildthing forever and always  I will love you.

I will always hold close to my heart us sitting in the car, listening to Chicago- 25 or 6 to 4, you turning it way up so I would hear the drums, you told me "Listen Maggie, this is the best part!" with a big smile on your face, we sat there enjoying that moment. At that time I would have never thought that would have been something I remembered, but it is one of my favorite memories. I played it the same way we did with Ahmiley and she loved it, I will forever hold you in my heart dad, music has always been our connection and when I miss you or just need you around I will play our songs. Forever your Maggie May.

I will always cherish dad walking me down the aisle as I was about to marry Greg. I didn't think dad would physically be able to do so, but he definitely showed everyone up and even danced, "Brown Eyed Girl" with me, which is me and dad's song together! It's one of my favorite memories that I have.
