Joni Lynn Waddill, 52, beloved wife and cherished mother, passed away the evening of July 15, 2012, at her home in Katy, Texas. While surrounded by family, she courageously lost her year-long battle with cancer.
Joni was born on December 3rd, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska to Jimmy and Wanda Jeanette Taylor. She attended Queen City, Texas schools and married her high school sweetheart, Billy Waddill in September of 1978. Joni was proudly devoted to, and staunchly protective of her family and friends. She was overjoyed to be a grandmother. She is remembered for her fierce independence, strength of character, commanding personality, and dedicated professionalism. These attributes established a successful career spanning almost 20 years with Sysco Corporation headquartered in Houston, Texas.
She enjoyed playing golf and having a pencil with an eraser to keep score. She always won playing chancy Texas Hold’em cards, 3-card poker, bingo, bowling, and betting at the race tracks. She was an avid reader and master chef of the Texas cuisine. Her recent most favorite activities included being with her grandchildren, weekend cookouts with family, and playing Words with Friends (and yes, she always won).
Joni is survived by her mother Wanda Taylor, her husband Billy Waddill, daughters Lora Walker and Julie Waddill, Lora’s husband Russell Walker and grandchildren Wesley and Ellasyn Walker. Also surviving are her siblings James Taylor, Cindy Kipling and Elizabeth Anderson, as well as 6 nieces and nephews, their children, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Taylor and will rest beside him at Watters Cemetery in Doddridge, Arkansas at a date to be determined.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston. Friends and relatives may view arrangements online, sign Joni’s guestbook, and extend condolences. The family will receive guests following the service at the home of her daughter, Lora Walker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in her memory. MD Anderson Cancer Center ∙ [email protected]. Joni will remain in our hearts forever.
