Jones was born the 9th of April, 1942 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas to Bettie F. Smith and Jones Thomas Robertson both formerly of Rockdale, Texas.
He was raised on Peden Avenue in what is now known as The Montrose. As a child Jones was a herpetologist and serious snake hunter and collector some of which he sold to the Houston Zoo. He did not believe in killing them but identifying then releasing.
He was an avid fan of Golden Gloves and professional boxing, his favorite sport.
Jones attended Wharton Elementary, Lanier Junior High and San Jacinto High Schools.
He previously worked as a salesman for Combined Insurance of America winning several sales trophies and a technician for Dell Refrigeration but his passion was sales and in 1969 founded along with his mentor Bill Burcalow, Power Tool Service Company and Garza Telecommunications in 1980. He ran the businesses until successfully selling in 2015 and retired. Through his businesses he held memberships in the Equipment Service Association, The East End Chamber of Commerce, Net Plus Alliance, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the National Association of Broadcasters.
Jones was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
He was very kind hearted and an incredibly generous person with a wry sense of humor.
Jones was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bettie Jane (Susie) Robertson. He is survived by his wife, Evangeline (Vangie) Garza and daughters Denise Case of Tomball and Deanna King of Spring and son Jones T. (JB) Robertson III of Houston. Sons-in law Kelly Case and Michael King. Grandchildren Jade Perkins, Trevor Case, Olivia and Natalie King, great grandchildren Shyloh and Addyson Clark and Arya Case, nephews Jerry and Kurt Klinger of Laytonville, CA and a host of in-laws and friends.
A memorial service and rosary officiated by Father Albert Zanatta will be held on April 9, 2019 at Forest Park Lawndale at 7 p.m. with reception to follow.
