Mike was an Ironman triathlon finisher, a rock n’ roll keyboardist, a deep sea spear fisherman, an award-winning real estate broker, a Lifetime Director in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and a weekend rancher - cherishing his time on his and Marji’s Rockin’ H Ranch in Hempstead. He loved riding his favorite horse, Doc, his tractor and “the Mule”. Mike challenged himself to be the best he could be in every area of his life, and to have the most fun doing it. As Marji would say, “Mike was always just five seconds away from mischief!”
A proud Houstonian, Mike graduated from Lamar High School and THE University of Texas with a BBA. He then served four years as Lieutenant and Supply Officer in the US Navy, which he considered one of the most important accomplishments of his life.
His business career at CBRE spanned 31 years and included his being named a recipient of the William H. McCarthy Award, the highest award given by CBRE to a broker. He opened Michael Hill Properties in 2002 and remained active until 2 weeks prior to his passing. He loved the art of the deal. In January of 2020, Mike was proudly inducted into the NAIOP Hall of Fame, one of the industries most honored achievements.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Marji; his children, John and Ashley; his children by marriage, Thomas and Sharon Emde and Marc Emde; his four grandchildren, Braedon, Isabel, Tanner and Ryder; and an extended family of brothers-and-sisters-in-law.
A celebration of Mike’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 7th of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. For those unable to attend, a livestream will be accessible by selecting the "Join Livestream" icon in the “Celebration of Life” section.
