John Keller McCarron, 89, passed away on January 7, 2015. He was born on October 25, 1925 in Bucyrus, Ohio to John W. and Ruth K. McCarron. John was a second lieutenant who served proudly as a navigator in the Army Air Corps in World War II having enlisted at the age of 17. He attended Case University, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and graduated with an engineering degree that he would use in a long and distinguished career. Employed by Shell Pipeline for over 40 years, he traveled to numerous countries, held multiple patents, and sat on committees for American Petroleum Institute to help write standards for pipe and welding specifications. After retirement he continued to work as an independent consultant into his 80s. John was involved in many organizations such as Boy Scouts, Head Start, coaching youth teams; he served as an Elder at St. Paul Presbyterian Church and sang tenor in the church choir. An avid reader, John never stopped learning or teaching. His command of language was extraordinary, and he also wrote poetry. John loved life and embraced every adventure. His delightful sense of humor and great wit were appreciated by so many.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sara P. McCarron, son Dr. John A. McCarron, brother Jim, and half-brother Robert. He is survived by sister, Mary Ellen Van Dusen; children, Dr. Sara H. “Shelley” McCarron; Marcia “Marcy” Eason and husband David; Dr. Michael H. McCarron and wife Kathy; daughter-in-law Dr. Jane Reldan; grandchildren: Patrick McCarron and wife Allie; Katy Evans and husband Todd; Klarice McCarron; Chelsea Stabler and husband Garret; Shannon Cordell and husband Phillip; and Valerie Eason; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law Jebby Phillips and husband Dennis, and many nieces and nephews. John was the ultimate family man; loving and devoted husband, father and “Grandpa.” He collected uncounted friends from all walks of life whom he considered family. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 20th at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Dr. Marshall Zieman will be officiating. Following the service all are invited to join the family for a reception.
