John Perry Hughey Jr. passed away on October 12, 2022 in Houston,Texas. John was born on July 17, 1937 in Norfolk, Virginia. John, son of John Perry Hughey Sr. and Lona Timmons, is preceded in death by his parents and sister Jacqueline Sydnor. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Navidad B. Hughey, daughter Linda Stevenson (Greg), granddaughters Lauren and Olivia Stevenson, and numerous nephews and nieces.
John was a proud graduate of Clemson University with a degree in electrical engineering. After serving as a second lieutenant in the US Army Reserves, he embarked on a 25-year career with NASA. Upon retirement from NASA, John owned his own business and at the same time worked as a consultant and educator.
Passionate about many things, John particularly loved his Clemson Tigers, Houston Astros, and worked tirelessly for his beloved Republican Party and Shriners. John served as master of the South Houston Masonic Lodge and was a precinct chairman of the Houston Republican Party for many years.He also found time to be active in the Episcopal Church, Rotary Club, Exchange Club, and served as past-president of LULAC Council 60.
A visitation for John will be held Friday, October 28, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo Broadway Funeral Home 4136 Broadway st. Houston, TX 77087.
Following the visitation will be a committal & Masonic service at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598
