Dean (John Dean) Dubois passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at age 80. He was born on Avery Island, La on March 27, 1935 and spent his childhood there with his parents, 5 brothers and one sister. He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering at Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now U. L., Lafayette). Dean and wife Barbara married on August 22, 1959, 56 years. He served in the army, as a medic, and later earned 3 life-saving awards. Dean was always ready and willing to help people in need.
Dean was employed by the Texas Pipeline Company in Louisiana, and in 1972, moved to Houston, working for Texaco, with his family of 6. The highlight of his career was supervising the construction of a pipeline in the North Sea from 1978 - 1980. At that time, he enjoyed living in London for a year and a half and traveling to Northern Scotland. The family enjoyed spending a summer in London, with a trip to Paris, and he and Barbara traveled in Europe as well. After 35 years working for Texaco/Star Enterprise, Dean retired in 1993, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe and New Zealand with his beloved wife, Barbara. He also loved fishing, woodworking, and fixing everything, with his engineering expertise, and was always looking for a project to build or organize. His encouragement, wit, smile, and laughter will also be cherished memories.
Dean was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude Landry Dubois, father Fernand Dubois, infant brother Earl Dubois, and sister Marsha Chambers. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Ozenne Dubois, and their four children, Nanette Leonard and husband Cary, Donna Hussey and husband Stephen, Denise Taylor and husband Tray, and John Dubois and wife Mechelle, and 10 grandchildren, Kyle and Scott Leonard, Meaghan, Greg, and Evan Hussey, Avery, Collin, and Emily Taylor, and Gavin and Maci Dubois. He is also survived by his five Dubois brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Lenny, Ferdie, and Greg. Pallbearers serving are John Dubois, Cary Leonard, Stephen Hussey, Tray Taylor, Kyle Leonard, Scott Leonard, Greg Hussey, Collin Taylor, and Gavin Dubois.
The family welcomes friends and family to the visitation from 6 - 8 pm on Friday, September 4 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy in Houston. A memorial mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood, Houston at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund in Dean's name to benefit the Alzheimer's Association
