Was born on February 24, 1925 on farm at Yoakum, Texas. Joe graduated from Yoakum High School in 1942, joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served as a military policeman in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines and Leakey Islands. In 1948 Joe joined John, Bill and Ralph and his brother Bob Marek in Houston where he was very instrumental in helping John, Bill and Ralph form the early stages of the Marek Family of Companies. Joe was a true craftsman and was highly regarded in the Houston Home Building Community. Joe was dedicated to his family and St. John Neumann friends; he was very active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society where he volunteered to help the poor. Joe is survived by sons Gerald and Michael, daughters Jennifer and JoAnn & husband Mark Maloney and grandchildren Hayley & Corey Hamilton and Sean Maloney. The family is very grateful to Houston Hospice and to AccuCare Medical Service Company and the Missionary Carmelite Sisters for their caring help during Joe’s last days. The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 20th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm at the Del Angel Funeral Home 5100 North Freeway at Tidwell. The Funeral Mass celebrating Joe’s life will be on Wednesday March 21st at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 2730 Nelwood with Monsignor Seth Hermoso officiating with the interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Park at 13747 Eastex Freeway. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation to St. John Neumann-St. Vincent de Paul Society 2730 Nelwood Houston, TX 77038 would be appreciated.
