Jodie Davis was born to Joe and Mary James Davis on September 22, 1931 in Hearne, Texas. He attended school in Robertson County. He spent many years in Hearne and Bryan, TX before his relocation to Houston, TX.
He began his career as a truck driver for J.B Hunt. After leaving the trucking industry, he began work for the Houston Highway Department which has since been renamed Texas Department of Transportation. He worked there for 30 years until his retirement in 1996. After retirement, he didn’t just stop working. He got some lawn equipment and became an entrepreneur starting Davis Landscaping where he took care of several businesses and churches until he became ill in 2016.
Throughout his life, Jodie traveled, loved spending time with his family, enjoyed his favorite past time of cheering on the Houston Astros, and hanging out with his buddies at Shipley’s and Luby’s daily.
Preceding him in death were his parents Joe and Mary Davis, his sisters Fannie Beatrice Moore, Emma Jean Smith, Ruby Lee Young, and his brother Howard Goosby. He leaves behind children Howard Lee Davis, Robert Earl Davis Sr. (Betty), Dora Faye Bowman, Tamika Means (Dean); James Benford, Larry Davis, and Sylvia Smith (Roderick); grandchildren Tenisha Bowman (Anthony), Brodrick Davis (Medra), Brylan Davis (Chanseya), Robert Earl Davis Jr. (Kayla), and Micah Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
