Born on September 5, 1941, in Houston, Texas, to Margie Lee and Titus (TC) Carr, JoAnn was the second of three children. She spent her childhood in the Acres Homes community and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1960.
From an early age, JoAnn embraced her faith in Christ, becoming a devoted member of the Church of the Living God. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, helping her navigate both joyous and challenging times.
JoAnn dedicated her professional life to the well-being of others through her work in nutrition services. She served tirelessly and compassionately at Harris Health System, where she made a lasting impact until her retirement in 2007. JoAnn’s life was marked by both immense love and profound loss. She faced the early passing of her father, Titus Carr, in 1952, when she was just 11 years old. She later endured the tragic loss of her brother, Donald Ray Carr, in 1969, and her sister, Shirley Rose Carr Mitchell, in 1996. In 2006, her caring mother Margie Lee Carr, departed this life.
Despite these hardships, JoAnn remained a beacon of strength and resilience, becoming the last surviving sibling. Known for her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter, JoAnn was truly the life of the party. Her humor and joy brought light to every gathering, creating lasting memories for all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by those who survive her.
JoAnn is lovingly remembered by her two devoted daughters, Demetris Cassandra Carr and Denise Ann Carr, and her beloved granddaughter, Gabrielle Briana Cato. She also leaves behind her nephew, Alvin Ray Mitchell, and three nieces: Genera Marie Mitchell, Bridgette Renee Mitchell, and Sharon Yvonne Mitchell Pearson. Sharon’s spouse, Alfred Dwayne Pearson Sr., and their two children, Aldwana Pearson and Alfred Dwayne Pearson Jr., will also forever hold JoAnn’s memory dear. A host of cousins, other relatives, and friends, all touched by her warmth and kindness, mourn her passing.
