Jimmy was born in Texas City, TX where he graduated from Texas City High School. He then enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school where he served as a medic. After serving the in the Air Force he began studying Chemistry at the University of Houston, he met Anita. They married in 1959 and would raise six children together in their house on Beldart Street in Houston, TX.
Jimmy was a family man. He gave his time and attention to his children and grandchildren. He coached many years of Little League baseball and softball where he would drive his 1969 Toyota Corolla to pick up any team member that needed a ride to practice or a game regardless of how full the car would be. Jimmy attended countless sporting events and school activities of all of his children and many of his grandchildren. He attended all of their high school and college graduations and was able to watch three of his grandchildren get married. His grandchildren would say “that’s MY grandpa” and were soothed by his calm, playful, and patient manner.
On the weekends, the house was full of family and neighborhood kids playing games or sharing meals together. Saturday night was ‘burger night’ and something that his children and his grandchildren looked forward to and remember fondly. You would find Jimmy wearing a Texas Longhorn shirt and holding a beer while attending to the grill. Music was a big part of Jimmy’s life. Jimmy loved listening to Jazz, Latin, and popular music and he passed on his appreciation and love of music to his children and grandchildren. His family would attend church on Sunday and then have lunch at home together, often with friends and often with Jimmy providing the music. Family gatherings were also a large part of his life. Jimmy and Anita loved to host birthday celebrations and holiday events for the family as well as for extended relatives and friends which many times included live music, various games, and great conversations.
Jimmy received a B.S. in Chemistry and would retire from St. Joseph Hospital after working as the head of the Chemistry Department as well as working in the Clinical Engineering Department for 35 years. He loved working with his hands and was dedicated to his job where he was well respected and regarded.
Jimmy loved politics and he served his community as Precinct Judge for Precinct 379 for 35 years. Jimmy was involved in his church, Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and he would attend and work the annual church bazaars and other events over many years.
Jimmy leaves a family that will miss him immensely but knows that he is now in comfort with the Lord. His presence will be felt at our gatherings and his memory will live in the lives of those he leaves behind.
