In the gentle embrace of memories, we pay tribute to a remarkable woman who blessed us with her presence for 79 years. Jesse Forrestine Smith Franklin was born June 29, 1944, to Mary L. Perkins and Jessie Smith in San Antonio, Texas. A devoted mother of five, grandmother to four, and a cherished great-grandmother, she embraced each role with both quiet, and at times resounding, strength that resonated through generations.
After attending Wheatley High School in her hometown of San Antonio, Jessie moved to Houston, Texas, where she furthered her education at Massey Business College.
A beautiful woman both inside and out, Jesse walked this earth with class in addition to being an incredible mother. Jessie knew and loved the Lord and was saved at an early age. She trusted God, believed in His word, and had faith in Him. She spent many nights awake praying for her family, children, and grandchildren, as well as for those she did not know.
Her family and friends remember her as a kind, free-hearted, caring, and friendly person who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved watching a good western and drinking a cold Big Red. Her greatest attributes were humbleness, love, and forgiveness.
Jesse faced many battles during her lifetime, but she endured and won the race set before her. We know she is rejoicing in her eternal home as a victorious winner. It was a blessing for Jesse to say goodbye and extend her love before she passed away. Jesse made sure to tell all her loved ones she loved them and to “be happy.”
Those she leaves to continue her journey and laughter are her children: Joseph Louis Franklin, Lawrence Edwin Franklin, Nicole Angenette Jones-Davis, Kenneth Franklin, and Jessica Renae Franklin; her three grandchildren: Forrestine Dickson Knowles, Kenneth Jones, and Jordan Franklin; and her great-grandchild, Elliette Knowles.
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her stories continue to echo through the corridors of time, inspiring us to embrace each day with the same strength and boundless love she so beautifully embodied.
Her love manifested in the joy of family trips, laughter, and the cherished bond she shared with her children and grandchildren. Each grandchild held a unique place in her heart, and her great-granddaughter, Elliette, brought a radiant spark to her eyes.
This matriarch, whose life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering strength, has left an indelible mark on the hearts she touched. As we bid adieu to this extraordinary woman, let her legacy echo in the chambers of our hearts, a testament to the enduring power of love, forgiveness, and family. May her soul find peace in the eternal embrace, and may her stories continue to be whispered in the winds of time.
