Jerrie graduated high school and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. While there, she met the love of her life Jim Murphy. They married and remained so for over 50 years, until Jim’s passing in 2004.
She was a devoted and loving wife of strong Christian faith, attending the Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist. She was a huge Houston Astros fan and was so excited when the won the World Series, she was a member of the Petroleum Club, where she served as the new member liaison for the lady’s association, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo serving for 43 years on both the Trailblazers and School Art committees. Even after receiving her lifetime committeeman badge, she continued to attend and volunteer her time. She was also a longtime member of the Junior League of Houston and a Tea Room Patron.
Jerrie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy Mabry. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyliss Melchar of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; her nieces, Sonja Tanguay, Deva Collins, Karen Melchar, Nancy Hafer, Cheron Cox, Nichi Martin; and her nephews, Brian Melchar and Dennis Brockman.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from twelve until one o’clock the afternoon on Sunday, the 22nd of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. where the funeral service will immediately follow at one o’clock.
The family will gather for a private entombment at Rose Hill Mausoleum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she will be laid to eternal rest next to her husband, Jim.
