Mrs. Jeannette C. Fortenberry, a longtime resident of Houston and a native of Chesterhill, Ohio passed away January 5, 2014. She was 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry P. Fortenberry and is survived by children Jill Heitbrink and her husband Tim, and Mark Fortenberry; grandchildren Tom Heitbrink and Neil Heitbrink; brother Clyde Carpenter and other loving family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Austen “Ott” Carpenter and Alice Carpenter of Chesterhill, Ohio.
Mrs Fortenberry was born on August 13, 1928 and raised in Chesterhill, Ohio and a graduate of Marian Township High School in 1946. She then moved to Zanesville, Ohio where she worked as a secretary for the Boy Scouts of America and where she met her husband Jerry, an attorney for Tennessee Gas.
They were soon transferred to Nashville, Tennessee and then to Danville, Illinois.
They were then transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she enjoyed watching car races on the iced over lakes and Houston, Texas, where they resided in Sharpstown not long enough to even have to make their first house payment before being transferred to Chicago, Illinois; and finally again Houston, Texas where they have resided in Spring Branch since 1966.
During their retirement Jeannette and her husband Jerry enjoyed travelling to virtually every state in the Union including Alaska.
She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends in the neighborhood she had resided for many years.
She was also an avid bowler with many league trophies.
She was an avid reader with a wide array of interests but was particularly interested in Science Fiction and enjoyed old Science Fiction and drive-in B movies and television shows.
There will be a celebration of Jeannette Fortenberry’s life from 6 to 8 PM on Friday January 10, 2014 at the Memorial Oaks Funeral home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
A grave side service will follow in Jasper, Texas.
