Dr. Janice Diane Wiggins, age 64, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 29th of July 2017, after a long and debilitating illness. Janice is proceeded in death by her parents, Genevieve Lala Wiggins and James Edward Wiggins. She is survived by her siblings: Jeanette (Steve) Pearson of Houston, Texas and James (Janice Rogers) Wiggins of League City, Texas; niece: Brooke (Mark) Hall of Beaumont, Texas and nephew: Bobby Pearson of Austin, Texas. Janice is also survived by great-nephews, Ethan and Eli Hall, and a great niece, Elisabeth Hall, all who adored her.
Janice’s overwhelming love of children colored her entire life. Her interest in education and child development became her vocation and passion. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Houston in School Psychology. She touched many lives during her long career that included teaching at the Montrose Deaf Program, serving as an Evaluation Specialist at T.H. Rogers School, and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology in the Deaf Program at T.H. Rogers School.
In 2010, Dr. Wiggins opened the Brook School and served as its Executive Director. The Brook School’s Mission is to provide a quality learning environment that enables children who are hearing-impaired and their hearing peers to develop the listening, spoken language and literacy skills essential to academic, social and life-long success.
A Memorial Service in Janice’s honor will be held at two o’clock on Saturday, the 19th of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
