Janet Taylor Harding Hermann was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 17, 1920 to William Spence Harding and Laura May Taylor. She graduated from high school in 1938 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1941.
Janet married William Joseph Hermann, Sr. on January 23, 1942. They made their home in the Philadelphia area. In 1947 their son, William Jr. was born and in 1950, Thomas Robert joined the family. In 1959 the family relocated to Grosse Pointe, Michigan following William’s career with the Budd Company, and in 1972 they moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan. In 1972 Janet and Bill were transferred once again to Saarbrucken, Germany where Bill managed the Bendix plants in Europe.
After retirement they traveled extensively throughout the world. They especially loved cruising and made many good friends and memories on their trips. They moved to Texas as winter Texans in 1978 and later as permanent residents of Harlingen and The Woodlands.
After Bill passed away in 2004, Janet made her home at Parkway Place Retirement Center in Houston. She suffered a stroke in January 2017 and died peacefully on April 5, 2017 in Katy, Texas at the age of 97.
Janet will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. She was kind and good and was a wonderful mother, grand and great grandmother and a kind and gentle mother-in-law, always caring for others. Janet was good at everything! She was an excellent seamstress, even making dress suits for Bill. She loved to knit, do needlepoint, cook and garden. Her passion was traveling and golf; first playing and later in life, watching the tournaments on TV. She especially loved to watch Phil Mickelson.
Janet is survived by her sons and spouses, William and Mary Jean and Tom and Judy. Grandson and spouse, Jason and Erin, grandaughters Amanda Hermann, Sarah Blundell, Emily Sorensen, Ann Loob, Abbie Philipp and Mary Dobecka and 16 great grandchildren.
After a memorial service at Memorial Oaks on April 22nd, her ashes will be place next to her beloved husband, Bill.
