Janelle Karen (nee Mueller) Mattern, of Houston passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, and was born in Victoria, Texas on October 5, 1941 to Rudolph W. Mueller and Rosie Eleanora Wurdell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Victoria, TX. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1960 and received an Associate of Arts degree from Victoria College in 1962. Janelle and Carl Mattern Jr. married at Trinity Lutheran Church April 28, 1963.
Janelle was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Christian and Pauline Schaar and Franz and Maria Wurdell, grandparents, Hugo and Mary Mueller and Lily Wurdell, her parents and brother, James Arlen Mueller.
She is survived by her spouse Carl Mattern Jr., son Ross Kevin Mattern and his special friend Karen Power, son Jay Alan Mattern and his wife Mary Michele Mattern, grandson Austin Jakob Mattern, granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Mattern and Grace Miranda Mattern, and her nephew Kyle Brandon Mueller, as well as numerous blessings of extended family and friends.
She was a previous member of Trinity Lutheran Church (Victoria), Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran Church and currently a member of Joy Lutheran Church. For many years she helped with Vacation Bible School and church fellowships.
Janelle was a 15 year survivor of lung cancer. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, Assistant Cub Scout Leader, planner, communicator, and a woman of great faith.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Advantage Howard-Glendale Chapel, 1015 Federal Road, Houston, Tx. 77015 from 5 -7:30 pm.
Funeral Service will be held at St Mark Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl, Houston, Tx. 77055 on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00am.
Graveside services will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Columbus, Tx. At 4:00pm.
