He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 26, 1949 to Allen Roy Whitelock II and Virginia (Shafer) Whitelock. At a young age, his family moved from Maryland to Texas.
James served two tours of service in Vietnam and retired from the Army as a sergeant. He received the Army Commendation Medal on January 31, 1971. He then entered the University of Texas (Austin) and graduated on the Dean’s List in 1975. He worked in the oil industry, then got his master license in plumbing.
James was best known as a family man. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend and Knights of Columbus member. Those who knew him best appreciated his sense of humor and how he loved to make people laugh. Although he was a proclaimed proud Texan, he never lost the Baltimore accent! Above all else, James loved his Catholic faith. His confirmation day was a highlight in his life, and he prayed the Rosary faithfully, twice a day.
James will be missed by many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Allen Roy Whitelock III (Roy,) and wife Tonyia Ann (Clark) Whitelock. James is survived by his wife, MaryAnn (Rowell) Whitelock; son, Michael James Whitelock; daughter, Jennifer Whitelock and grandson, Elijah James Whitelock, and numerous family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, March 31, 2023 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Cypress following the rosary at 10:25am.
