James V. (Jim) Womack, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend went into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 21, 2011 in Houston, Texas. He was born Dec 13, 1927 in the community of Oatmeal near Bertram, Texas to C. P. (Lum) and Lena Womack.
Jim was a longtime member of Forest Oaks Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher or in any other needed capacity. Jim loved his Church.
Jim graduated from U of H in 1950 with a degree in Architecture. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was cheerleader, loved all U of H athletics and was a long standing member of the Cougar Club. Jim retired in 1986 as a partner from the firm of John Phenix and Associates. We have lasting reminders as we see the many buildings he designed around Houston.
Jim served in the U. S. Army as a MSG, stationed in the US and Germany during the Korean War. He and Mary Nell loved visiting with their old friends at annual Army reunions.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years Mary Nell Womack, son Jimmy Womack and wife Carol, daughter Terrie Rumph and husband Philip, grandsons Paul, Kyle, and Garrett Rumph, granddaughter Colleen Womack, brother Allen P. Womack and wife Patsy, niece Shawn Wokaty and nephew Tom Womack their spouses and children.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord will reward me on that day. 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
The family will receive friends at Forest Park Lawndale on Tuesday the 26th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Services will be held Wed at 11:00am at Forest Park Lawndale Main Chapel.
