James O. Simmons Jr., age 96, much beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 21, 2023 in Sugar Land, Texas. Jim was born to James O. Simmons Sr. and Melba Griffin Simmons in Monroeville, Alabama on March 15, 1927. Jim was strong in his Christian faith and worked hard for his loved ones throughout his entire life.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Floy Simmons, his infant daughter, Lisa Deette and an infant grandson, James Dennis Harrison. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Donna Aubol Simmons. He is also survived by his daughter, Dawn Till (Keith), Eve Wooding (Micheal), Tami Harrison (Johnny), and Wendy Martin (Dale), 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 5 stepchildren, Gary Aubol (Helen), Kim Wogsland (Rob), Dana Klander (Kevin), Amy Currier (Rich), and Dan Aubol, and numerous step-grandchildren and great and great-great step-grandchildren.
Jim served in WW II as a Navy Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class and photographer. He went on to complete his pharmacy degree from Ohio State University. Jim owned and operated Piney Point Pharmacy in Houston, Texas from 1964 until 1993. He had a lifelong love of photography and developed photos in his own darkroom as a young man. He was the official family photographer, and was seldom seen at family and church functions without a camera on his shoulder. Jim was a member of Sugar Land Baptist Church and belonged to the Joyful Believers Sunday School class.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 10:00 am at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land TX 77479. A Home Going Celebration will follow at 11:00 am, followed by a reception.
