Jim was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on Thursday, the 11th of October 1928. He graduated from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and immediately joined Delta Exploration in Jackson, Mississippi.
In 1968, Jim was transferred to Houston after a merger and became President of Seiscom Delta. He left Seiscom Delta in the mid seventies to pursue other interests in the oil and gas industry forming several companies such as Zimm Energy and Traverse Oil Company.
After a long and very successful career in the Seismic industry, he and his wife retired to Wimberley Texas. Never being one to sit idle, Jim became involved in local philanthropy by being instrumental in raising the funds for the building of a school at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. His dynamic personality and ability to touch the heart of anyone he encountered will never be forgotten by those that knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 wonderful years, Carol A. Mitchell; two sons, Joseph W. Mitchell and wife Cindy, of Yuma, Arizona, Stephen W. Mitchell and wife Susie, of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life and Reminiscing with Family and Friends took place on Friday, the 27th of April, from three until half past four o’clock in the afternoon at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston.
On Saturday, the 25th of April, at three o’clock in the afternoon, a service was held in the chapel of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 F.M. 3237 in Wimberley, Texas, 78676.
Jim will remain at St Stephen’s Church Cemetery where he can watch the children grow at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
