He was born on April 18, 1947 to William and Ruth Hines in Batavia, Ohio. Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Brenda Hudson-Hines, his parents and older brother William Hines, Jr. He was one of 4 children and is survived by a brother Michael Hines and sister Pamela Morgan of Charleston, South Carolina. Jim is also survived by his daughters Jennifer Hines, Kristine Garland and husband Shane both of Houston, Texas & Julie Garrett and husband David of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Peyton Lee, Aaron, Austin & Hailey Garland and Emily, Natalie & Joshua Garrett.
Following his youth in Ohio the Hines family moved to Florida and after high school Jim joined the US Army and was proud to serve his country as an Army Ranger in Vietnam. Once returning to Florida he began his career as an electrician and certified HVACR Technician. He soon relocated to Houston, Texas and settled in the Katy area. Here he would make his home and raise his family and build lifelong friendships.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren on the patio and in their pool. He also enjoyed many afternoons of shuffleboard with dear friends. Although he could be quiet, he was a kind and loving husband, father and friend.
He was blessed to be able to spend his final days at home with his family and his sweet little dog Simon who he loved so much.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 12:45pm at American Heritage Funeral Home followed by a graveside service with military honors at 2:00pm at the Houston National Cemetery.
