She was born on the 16th of October 1931, in Springfield, Illinois, and attended college at the University of Illinois. Iris married James Hefter and they raised two children while she attended law school at night. She graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1967 and was one of the early pioneers of women lawyers in Houston.
Iris had a passion for the profession of law and helping people of all walks. She worked for decades as a successful Houston attorney. She also loved to travel and entertain. She was married to Gerald Robinson for 33 years and they enjoyed their world adventures. In addition, Iris volunteered and supported a variety of organizations including Spaulding for Children Adoption and Foster Agency for many years.
In 2009 Iris met Soren Uhrenholdt, whom survives her, and they had a very special relationship full of love and travel. Soren was her partner, the light of her life and took great care of Iris. She is also survived by her son and daughter in law, Mark and Mindy Hefter and her daughter, Syd Sexton, along with grandchildren, Chandler and Garrison Hefter and Alexandra and Timothy Sexton and granddaughter in law, Amanda Sexton.
Iris’s family would like to express most sincere gratitude to Iris’s legal assistant, Sarah Munguia, and personal assistant, Sidonie Olivarez, for the loving care and assistance that they provided to Iris during the past few years.
Many thanks to the caregivers at Methodist Hospital and especially to Dr. Kim Bloom and Dr. Brian Walton and all of the staff in the medical intensive care unit.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 27th of March, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, where the Rev. R-J Heijmen, Associate Rector for Family, Young Adult and Student Ministries, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception celebrating her life at the Hampton on Post Oak, 2929 Post Oak Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77056.
